Neighbours complain about railway crossing

CHANGES have been made to a railway crossing after complaints by neighbours

Issues raised included the Normans Bay railway crossing closing at inconvenient times and noise from loudspeakers.

Staff sicknesses also caused problems, leaving the gates unmanned.

A Network Rail spokesman said: 'Network Rail has recently employed a crossing keeper, who will start work imminently to man the crossing throughout the day.

'We are continuing to examine longer term solutions and the possibility of creating an automatic barrier crossing at this location.'

Greg Barker MP told the Express he supported the residents' campaign for changes to the crossing.

He said: 'I am extremely supportive of the residents and understand the frustration and concerns.

'There is a long history to this saga and residents of Normans Bay are rightly worried at the poor manning of the gates.

'There has been not just inconvenience but real worries for people trying to get to hospital in an emergency.'
