NINFIELD MUSIC FESTIVAL: The Proms Night on July 29 was lovely… a tad chilly, but with extra layers of clothing being added each hour, the Other Half and I had a fabulous time, along with over 300 other jolly folk, eating a lovely picnic, drinking the required Fizzy Plonk, and waving Union Flags while singing all the Prom Concert favourites. Thank you to the Eastbourne Concert Band for the Music, and to the Bonfire Society for a stunning Fireworks Display at 10pm, once again showing that they really know how to put on a show. We couldn’t make the Gig on the Saturday 30th, but from reports online and word of mouth, it was, of course, a huge success, justifying its sell-out status. Well done all the team at the Bonfire Society, and especially Pete and Carol Holland, who not only head up the volunteers but supply and create the venue. Don’t forget, all funds raised after costs go towards the main event on Saturday 22 October, The Ninfield Bonfire and Fireworks Night. Now, C&P...Relax.

NINFIELD CARNIVAL ASSOCIATION: On Wednesday 10 August, 8.30pm in the Working Men’s Club. The committee will hold their first meeting since the Carnival on 16 July, and all the figures, of monies in and out, will be presented! Hopefully, after costs, there will be funds available for various village projects, and the committee are always pleased when groups and societies write in with requests for a donation. It would be great to see everyone who helped in any way, and if you fancy coming along to join the team, or see what’s planned next, then you’ll be made very welcome. There will be free food to go with the very reasonably priced drinks and as well as the Carnival break down, the next big event will be discussed, the Halloween Ball at the Memorial Hall, on the 29 October, a real Dazzler, with food hall, band, cabaret, magic and dancing. Also, the committee’s September meeting date will be set, along with the AGM in October, so do come along and find out more about how to get involved. There is no fee to join, just bring your sense of humour ‘cos we do have some fun.

NINFIELD HORTIULTURAL SOCIETY: On Saturday 20 August, the Horti Society hold their Annual Summer Show at the Memorial Hall. Details of all the classes available for entry are in the Lower Street Stores, so please go and get your schedules and decide what you’re going to put in. Rose really wants a big turnout this year and says that there are classes for everyone - including the Single Flower classes, and the Parish Award for a small collection of produce from your garden. All entry details have to be submitted by Wednesday 17th August please. For everyone going to see the exhibits, the doors will be open to the public from 2.30pm, and there will be teas, coffees and homemade cakes available while you browse! Please call Rose on 892422 for any more information; especially if you are new to the Horti Show classes and would like some help. It’s allowed.

NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB: Results. July 24 Ninfield 46 Beckley 63. July 27 Ninfield 44 Rye 77, both away matches. Sunday July 31 was a Rother League Match, played at Gullivers, with a win for Ninfield 79 - 73 Gullivers; and we gained 6 points for the table. On Thursday the club hosted the Rother League and Mermaid League Match, which the Mermaid League won; representatives from the teams made sandwiches and cakes, and although the rain tried to spoil play in the evening, everyone had a great time, with the last few cakes being finished off after a barbecue in the club on the following evening.

AND FINALLY: I’m going to be exercising the Acting Muscles again in a couple of weeks when I go off to do a play entitled Somewhere in England. Some of you may know the true story of the BBC being bombed out during the War, and then being subsequently relocated; the members of the Broadcasting team were sworn to secrecy as to their final destination, and pre-empted each announcement with the words.. ‘And here we are, speaking to you from a studio Somewhere in England’. So I will be doing the Column in the same way, but by laptop, from a room...Somewhere in England..(and probably very late at night). VLLAGE FAIR: Tomorrow, Saturday, is the Village Fair, so here’s hoping for some lovely weather. There will be lots to do, and Marie Edwards (01797 253264) is taking bookings for the stalls, crafts and local organisations, and boot fair pitches, Colin Cross (233258) is the contact for the vintage car and motorcycle rally, and Helen Sitford (252152) for the dog show.

The WI will be providing the teas and there will be food stalls, a beer tent and craft and trade stalls. Please note that Marie’s phone number has undergone a glitch in the Parish Magazine, but it is 253264. The Boot Fair starts at 9am, with the main Fair opening at 11am.

COFFEE STOP: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10am and 12 noon.

BANKING: NatWest bring their mobile bank to the Village Hall car park every Thursday afternoon from 1.30pm.

HELPING HANDS: Once again Northiam has delivered. Carol Ward’s project to provide a register of people to help one another has attracted 60 volunteers, as well as some people prepared to help with the organisation. There will be a meeting on Tuesday September 6 to update everyone on the project, and collect the relevant documentation to allow for DBS checks. I’m sure Carol will be happy to include anyone who hasn’t volunteered yet, there are full details on the village website northiamvillage.co.uk, or call her on 01797 253899.

FOR YOUR DIARY: Everything is a little quiet in August, then it’s all go. In September, we have the Autumn Show on September 10, you might see the ideal shot for the photography section whilst on a summer walk. The bonfire society are holding a Craft Fayre on September 17, and there will be a Harvest Festival flower show in St Mary’s at the end of the month, to include an art exhibition. Rye and District National Trust are visiting Buckingham Palace on September 14, to see the exhibition of the Queen’s fashion through her reign. The cost is £38, bookable with Ros Adkins (01797 253763).

PETT OLDER PEOPLE’S PROJECT: POPP on Tuesday August 9 will feature Keith Osbourne with Music for health. The session runs from 10.30am to 2pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

PETT GARDENING CLUB: This month, on Tuesday August 9, members will visit Godinton, near Ashford, where they will enjoy a guided tour round the tranquil gardens, which for four hundred years have adapted to changing fashions of planting and design and include terraced lawns, topiary, herbaceous borders and ornamental trees and shrubs. Please note that the tour starts at 2pm.

PETT LEVEL BEER FESTIVAL: Over the weekend of August 12, 13 and 14, the New Beach Club will be hosting the Pett Level Beer Festival 2016. There will be real ales and live music and entry is free.
