NINFIELD Village Society: The committee members hope for fine weather on Saturday, May 3, the first day of the Bank Holiday, when they host their Walk in the Wood followed by a BBQ in the Reading Room garden. The first Church Wood Walk will leave the Reading Room at 11am, the second at 11.30am. The Village Society is indebted to the Carnival Committee who will be running the BBQ. If you haven't yet seen the Reading Room's new garden this event will provide an ideal opportunity.

NINFIELD Carnival Association: The popular Fancy Dress Pram Race will be held on Bank Holiday Monday (May 5). This starts at the Blacksmith Inn at midday. Entry fees are juniors, 10 years, 2.50p, seniors 17 years, 2.50p, adults over 18 years, 5. Two people in each team. The race is run from the Blacksmiths to the end of Manchester Road and back. Prizes for the best costumes will be awarded. A BBQ in the car park is planned. This year the parish council plan to have a stall. It will be worth staying in the village that weekend. Do hope the weather is kind.

WINDMILL HILL: I have been contacted by Bee Frost (Mrs B E Frost) with information about the windmill at Windmill Hill. It is, as you may know, the largest post mill in the UK and has recently been restored with money from the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Heritage. You can visit the windmill on the first and third Sundays in each month, which includes Sunday, May 4 and Monday, May 5, the Bank Holiday weekend. Opening times are 2.30pm-5pm. I will publish other dates as they draw nearer. Admission is by donation, parking is available.

There will be a Violin Concert in the ballroom of Herstmonceux Castle on Friday, May 23, at 7.30pm in aid of the Windmill Trust. Tickets are 12.50p which includes complimentary wine/soft drinks in the cloisters during the interval. Mrs Frost can be contacted on 01323 833033 for more information. This will be a regular item giving details of their events month by month.

NINFlELD Bowls Club: The Open Day on Sunday last was hugely successful. Not only did the weather favour them but the number of visitors was most encouraging.

As I had mentioned Geoff, the chairman, warmly welcomed everyone and Brian, captain, and all the playing members offered help and advice to those wishing to try their hand.

I hope to bring you details of the matches as soon as I have news of them. If you would like to know more about the club ring Val, the secretary, on 01424 843436.

MR PICKWICK: I am sure I am not the only person who misses Mr Pickwick the excellent shop in Bexhill which used to stock such a wonderful variety of stationery, greeting cards and other items. The other advantage was its ideal position. I do hope all goes well for the people who provided such good service.
