Ofsted praises ‘good’ Wick school

A primary school in Wick has been judged as “good” following its first inspection by education watchdog Ofsted.

Despite being open for little more than a year, White Meadows Primary School, in Whitelea Road, has been praised by inspectors for its engaging teaching methods and strong leadership.

The report, published last Wednesday (January 9), notes: “There is a harmonious and positive atmosphere for learning and pupils typically behave well and feel safe.

“The quality of teaching is typically good through the school, although there are some variations in quality and not all is at the very best level.

“Regular checks on pupils’ progress pinpoint quickly any pupils in danger of falling behind. Class teachers use the information to target support.”

Ofsted’s verdict on the school – an amalgamation of the former Wickbourne Infant School and Flora McDonald Junior School – follows a visit by an inspection team last month.

Luisa Gould, White Meadows’ head teacher, spoke of her delight with the primary’s inspection result, saying: “I think the fact that we have only opened just over a year ago and for Ofsted to come in and say that teaching at the school is good, and that leadership and management is going in the right direction, speaks volumes.”
