Hoping for a smoother ride ahead

Many of us have been there - that sickening crunch when a wheel hits an unseen pothole and you are already visualising the high repair bill. If you are riding a cycle or motorcyle the result of encountering a pothole could have potentially serious consequences.

Driving in country lanes or small towns, such as Winchelsea, at night, potholes can be almost impossible to spot.

Now, with some of our roads resembling medieval cart-tracks, news that more money is to be pumped into repairing them comes not a moment too soon.

Will the latest £1.4 million Government hand-out be enough to make a difference? We know how wide-spread the poor state of the road surfaces is so time will tell.

In the short-term though, news that the money is there and repairs will get underway soon is good news.

Gulls have been causing a flap on our Facebook page this week and we intend to take a more in-depth look at the situation online and in the next edition of the Rye Observer.
