VOLUNTEER: Support prisoners in getting a fresh start

The role would be on behalf of the charity, PACT, which provides practical and emotional support to inmates’ children and families, as well as prisoners themselves.

From meeting with offenders in custody before release from jail, to being at the gate on the day of discharge, the aim is to encourage full integration and to prevent social exclusion through coaching, mentoring and befriending.

Further duties would then include supporting and accompanying offenders to appointments and meetings, working to meet the needs identified between the inmate and their offender manager, participating in restorative justice programmes and completing exit surveys/interviews with prisoners.

‘Reading buddies’ are needed to help develop children’s literacy skills at Arundel CE Primary School.

The school, in Jarvis Road, is hunting for adult volunteers who would be able to come to the primary and sit with children while they read aloud.

Adults are also needed with special knowledge of topics the school uses in lessons to help bring learning alive.

Volunteers will be assigned a teacher/class exploring a particular topic and together they will tailor the volunteer opportunity.

The role would be approximately an hour a week, with the aim of instilling a love of books which will hopefully stay with children throughout their lives.

A volunteer shop assistant is required at the Link to Hope’s charity shop in Littlehampton.

The warm and welcoming team is looking for someone to help with a range of duties from displaying and making up outfits, preparing and merchandising stock, to serving and talking to customers.

The charity’s funds are being put towards rebuilding lives and communities in eastern Europe through social care and education projects.

Voice of Progress, Worthing and Littlehampton’s talking newspaper for the blind and partially-sighted, requires a volunteer outreach officer to join its team in Rustington.

The volunteer would help produce high quality recorded news for listeners as well as developing the listenership into the future.
