Don't give them space

THE Herald, Islam groups and the police, although well-meaning, in fact do everyone a disservice by making such a huge fuss about the racist or religious nature of graffiti.

Do you not realise that the more publicity you give to it, the more important you will make the culprit feel?

He/she will see that his artistry is having the desired effect and so will be encouraged to do it again.

By focusing on the graffiti's message, you imply that you would have had no objection to graffiti displaying an alternative point of view.

In fact, ALL graffiti is offensive because it is vandalism.

It is unsightly and makes our town look run-down.

All graffiti "artists" should be pursued by the police and prosecuted for criminal damage, whether or not their work incites hatred of particular groups or promotes any political view.
