LETTER: Make a good Lenten journey

In the Christian calendar, the time between Christmas and Easter, the season of Lent, is an opportunity to reflect in a more concentrated manner on LIFE '“ how we live our lives, what is most important in our lives, what it is that we can remove from/add to our lives in order to give a deeper meaning to who and what we are.

Much of our lives are filled with distractions: the mobile phone, all forms of technology, the television and much, much more.

To take time and reflect can be immensely beneficial and this can be done at any time, not least at the end of our day, at any time of the year.

However, Lent brings that specific opportunity for us all to reflect on how much we are loved; to prepare to enter into that most wonderful season of Easter when He who gave His life for us on Good Friday, has risen from the tomb and given us the promise of life everlasting, a life that will need no reflection.

An important part of making good preparation for Easter is to give consideration to those less fortunate than ourselves; those whose lives, for one reason or another have become difficult to bear.

There are many such forms which blight people’s lives, here in Horsham as much as anywhere in our country. The giving of self to others is a most valuable way in which we can make sense of our own lives, helping us to make a good Lenten journey and beyond!
