Brilliant concert

We had sunshine both inside and outside Worthing's packed Assembly Hall on Sunday, February 16.

Uplifting music played by the Worthing Symphony Orchestra amply echoed the feeling of optimism that spring is now finally on its way.

Their principal conductor, John Gibbons, masterfully introduced and directed music by Mozart, Chopin, Grieg and Schubert.

The highlight of the concert was Chopin’s 1st Piano Concerto, written at the tender age of 19.

Well supported by the orchestra, the young Thai pianist Poom Prommachart gave an eloquent account of this magical work.

Worthing audiences last saw him in April 2013 when he won first prize in the 2nd Sussex International Piano Competition with his exacting and thrilling performance of Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto.

Poom has won many prestigious prizes, so it was a real treat to hear him play once again right on our doorstep.
