ECO TOWN: Runway view no good at all

WITH reference to Mr Tony Dixon's letter, published on August 14, with regard to the housing minister's visit to Ford and the surrounding areas.

Mr Dixon quotes that the minister had visited the site.

I would refer to the minister's letter to the Littlehampton Gazette where she states that she viewed the whole of the site from the former runway of Ford airfield.

I visit the boot sale on Saturdays and you cannot see from the former runway the whole of the site and most certainly not the green fields covering Ford, Yapton and Climping.

This is why the minister should have taken up the offer to see all the area to be developed, which would have disclosed the vast area of greenfield land which is farmed at present and cannot be seen from the concrete runway.

I would question how she would arrive at an independent view by being taken to the concrete runway of the former airfield and not seeing the rest of the site which extends far beyond the airfield.

With reference to housing waiting lists, there is no guarantee from the developers that their reported allocation of 1,500 affordable houses will be given to local people as affordable, let or joint let and buy.

With reference to employment.

The attraction of the area has not brought companies here before, so why should it do so with the introduction of a new Eco-Town when the infrastructure is not in place and will not be so for many years.

The developers have no plan to resolve this and want only to build houses for profit and leave the problems to the government, district councils, local councils and parish councils.
