LETTER: Power of local press is amazing
We are looking for those who served on HMS Ocean, the Shore Base HMS Collingwood, HMS Relentless and many more, with some lovely stories.
A ‘Best Man’ looking for his shipmate and his wife once again. As with many cases, they lost touch when they were drafted to different ships.

Angel Radio Isle of Wight transmits on 91.5 fm to the Isle of Wight and part of Hampshire and on the ‘Wight Fibre’ network, but is also transmitting on the World Wide Web on www.angelradioisleofwight.moonfruit.com.
A ‘Nostalgic Radio Station’, it will appeal to anybody who enjoyed the music of the 1930s through to the 1970s and we would like to transmit any ‘Lamp Swinging’ stories and reunite shipmates no matter where they are in the world.
Email your story complete with name of the ‘oppo’ you are looking for, the ship or shore base and the dates to [email protected] or write to Mike Crowe, Angel Radio Sailors, 7 Heath Road, Sandown, Isle of Wight. PO36 8PG.

Hide AdThe first of the weekly broadcasts will be on a Wednesday afternoon later this month with contributions from September 1949, through the Korean War and ‘C’ Class Destroyers on the China Station, to a Malta Story in 1968. And linked to each story, a piece of music of the time, just to turn the clock back completely! ‘Nostalgia is what it used to be’ so find the station on your computer and stand by to hear your story.
What are the HM Ships’ Associations doing? When is their next reunion? Listen in to the latest from them too. An hour of nostalgia, be prepared to ‘Swing that Lamp’.
Thank you local newspapers, the power of the local press is quite amazing, I think that some readers ‘read the print off’ their local paper, making sure they miss nothing!
