Star baker judges fete competition

Heron Way Primary School in Horsham welcomed local celebrity Cat Dresser, of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ fame, to their summer fete last Sunday, to judge their Cake Bake Off Challenge.

Over 20 children and parents entered with the children baking football themed cupcakes whilst the parents’ challenge was to create a classic Victoria Sponge.

Before coming to her final decision, Cat looked for overall presentation coupled with a taste test!

The winners were Emily Orman, Class 6 and parent Danielle Lendon who each received a Heron Way Star Baker apron, with child runners up of Bianca Chamberlain, Maddy Pringle and Orla O’Neill and parents Julie Grover and Jinny Meeking.

Head teacher James Crump, said: “I was astounded to see so many pupils and parents had taken the time to produce such top quality cakes; they are a true credit to the school.”

The fete, which was rescheduled at the last minute due to Saturday’s inclement weather, included over 40 stalls and performances from Years 3 and 4, Heron Way singers and Inspire Academy of Dance, with West Sussex Fire and Rescue in attendance. It succeeded in raising fundraised in over excess of £4,500 for the school.
