With reference to Mr Michael Plumbe’s letter, ‘What a ride No.23 bus journey was’, published in the Observer dated 5/5/12.

We do not have that many buses a day, no evening service after 17.15, Saturday buses finish at 14.00, no Sunday service.

The buses we do have are essential and we are grateful for them. Some are well loaded, one can see Malvern Way, Hollington and Old Town buses very sparsely loaded at times.

Because our first ‘free’ bus doesn’t arrive in Hastings town centre until 10.30, my wife and I often pay and catch the 08.20 and 09.00 buses, both often well loaded.

Our buses are essential and I am surprised that Mr Plumbe is decrying them.
