Police inaction is not surprising

The police inaction over the street drinkers and abusive junkies (Hastings Observer 12/8/16) in the town does not surprise me.

What does concern me is that the old cry of ‘no crime has been committed’ is a cop out literally and does not take into account that doing nothing is not an option as at some time there will be a problem and then there will be the ‘who would have thought it’ scenario.

If by any chance a member of the public feels their own safety or the safety of their family is an issue then you can bet if they take action to protect themselves, then only the lack of interest by the police will be to blame.

Unfortunately, in that instance, when the police consider a crime has taken place will they act, and you can bet that whoever was protecting themselves or their family won’t get the conditional discharge or a ‘community order’ or the suspended sentence like all the other local villains get handed by Hastings Magistrates’ Court.

It will be classed as ‘taking the law into your own hands’ and an example will have to be set.
