Over four hundred bikers take part in Poker Run

OVER four hundred bikers took part in the annual charity Poker Run which saw a local lady rider winning the day with a straight run in more ways than one.

Now in it's fifth year, the increasingly popular event, organised by The Norsemen Motor Cycle Club, saw 408 eager leather clad bikers participating in the event.

The 81 mile circuit took in 5 stops throughout the local area. At each stop the players picked up a card to make up a poker hand; culminating at the end of the run with the top three hands winning a cash prize and trophy.

Secretary of The Norsemen MCC, Kevin Martin, said glorious weather was an added bonus to what turned out to be a fantastic day for all involved, and described the route the players took:

"First stop was at V Twin at Rye Harbour, the owner Nick had a band playing during the day and a guy doing burn outs.

"From there the players rode to The Castle Inn at Bodiam where they could have a full breakfast and a long cool drink out on the patio overlooking the castle.

"Next they rode on to the Six Bells, Chidingly, which is a biker friendly pub in a lovely village setting, here they could sit back and contemplate what cards they now needed to make up a good hand!

"Then, on to the Beachy Head Inn, where the players could grab a coffee or cool refreshing drink and walk along the cliff looking at their poker hand and deciding if to ride on or just jump over the edge - luckily none took the later option!

"From there it was a nice leisurely ride to Catsfield to pick up the last card, here was the main rally site with food, side stalls, hog roast, bar, bands and over night camping - and not forgetting the large bonfire.

"The evening went well with all riders enjoying the music."

Winning with a top hand of a straight run was Tiffany Snape from Ore village.

Kevin praised all involved for the generous support the event received:

"The Norsemen MCC would like to thank all stops for their kind donations and Frenches skip hire, Broxbourne plant hire, Elite scaffold, Triumph owners club, and all the residents of Catsfield for enduring any noise caused."

Money raised from the Poker Run will go to the Sussex Air Ambulance, which is The Norsemen's chosen charity this year.

The final figure has yet been finalised but it's expected to be in the region of 2,000.
