Pagham crossing nears completion

A long-awaited pedestrian crossing in Pagham will soon be completed.

County council workmen should finish installing the safety measure across Pagham Road by September 23.

It will be the parish's only pedestrian crossing and follows years of pressure from residents who live around its location.

The crossing is being laid between The Bear pub and the parade of businesses which includes Tesco Express.

Parish councillor and Mill Farm estate resident Colin Doherty said: "The residents on this estate are over the moon that the new crossing is going in.

"It will give us somewhere to cross if we are going to the shops. The people at the neighbouring Nyetimber Mill sheltered accommodation scheme will benefit as well.

"It's suicidal crossing Pagham Road from the estate at the moment."

The crossing will be a traditional-style zebra crossing and is costing about 15,000 to put in.

Its installation means the bus stops outside The Bear and Tesco Express will be moved north.
