Paul makes it a family affair ashe takes on gruelling challenge

Paul said: “It was very special for me as my parents and brother also took part to help raise funds in aid of local sick, disabled and terminally-ill children”.

Paul explained that over the weekend of June 5 and 6 a team got together to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, this involves climbing the Three Highest Peaks in the UK

He said: “The highest of the three mountains is Ben Nevis in Scotland with an elevation of 1,344m above sea level.

“Most people start the challenge at Ben Nevis purely because it is the furthest from home and it is the highest climb. Due to it’s height and location, ‘the Ben’ is rarely without snow on it’s summit plateau.

Second in the challenge is Scafell Pike in the Lake District. At 978m this is the lowest summit of the three, however, with it’s relentless and steep ascent it is arguably the hardest of all. It is also considered the hardest to navigate in poor weather conditions.

Finally, we reached Snowdon in Wales, with an elevation of 1,085m. starting at Pen-y-Pass (the most common starting point), you are already 359m above sea level, however, this does not make Snowdon an ‘easy mountain’. Snowdon has a few different route options, most of which share the same final steep ascent to the summit.

“The weather on Ben Nevis was awful and unfortunately did not allow the team to make the summit, instead we climbed to 1,100 metres before the guide told the walkers to turn around and go back.

Scafell Pike was very challenging especially as this was attempted in pitch black. The team only had head torches to light the way.

“By the time we reached Snowdon the weather was glorious. The views from the top was amazing!

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the team when we took on the Tree Peaks Challenge.”
