An 85-year-old Aldwick woman has been robbed in broad daylight.

The pensioner was walking along Sefton Avenue in Rose Green at about 2.30pm last Thursday when she was pulled backwards by her coat. She fell to the ground.

A man stole her black handbag which contained cash, a bus pass, her pension card and various personal papers.

He is described as tall, well built and wearing jeans.

The victim suffered bruising and was left shaken by her ordeal.

Police are appealing for any information about the theft or witnesses.

They know a man stopped at the scene and told the woman he had seen what happened. But he drove off before the police arrived.

Inspector John Merrick, of Bognor Regis police station, said: 'We would like to speak to this man. I would appeal for him to come forward.

'Fortunately, these sort of incidents are rare in this area. However, purse thefts are still a problem in the town centre.

'There were six between August 13 and 17 alone.

'Most take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays and they often occur in charity shops.

'These crimes are a problem all over the western district and I would urge shoppers to remain vigilant at all times.'
