Duke and Duchess of Sussex - “The roles are potentially empowering for so many local groups and good causes”
Three years ago, there was overwhelming excitement that Harry and Meghan had been appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The counties were both proud and overjoyed that these young Royals with enormous charisma, charm, intelligence and humour had been chosen by HM the Queen to bear the county name.
But after only one official visit in the autumn of 2018 and now no prospect of them returning, we ask if it is time for new holders of the office.
The roles of Duke and Duchess are potentially enormously empowering for so many local groups and good causes. A visit lifts both the spirits of those involved and raises the profile of their organisation to a national audience.
As Harry and Meghan establish themselves in California away from the Royal Family is it right that they continue to use the title or does Sussex now warrant a couple who are able to spend more time here serving local people?
We want to know your views.
There are those who will believe we should stand by them at such a challenging time in their lives when they have spoken on global television of the entirely unacceptable racist abuse they have received, while others will see their decision to step away from both Royal duties and the UK as a time when they should relinquish their position here too. And, of course, there will be many who simply don’t care.
