The charity mobilised its staff and volunteers to give one-to-one advice over the phone and via online chat across the town after the lockdown began on March 23.

Peter Wilkinson, volunteer adviser, said: “Most of the people have contacted us about the bread and butter issues - employment matters, relationship issues, benefits, fuel costs etc.

“This has meant they have felt supported in, what are for many people, even more isolated times than ever. Others have been specifically coronavirus related - access to food, the furlough scheme, being stranded abroad. Many clients have expressed gratitude at being contacted during this time.”

Alan Bruzon, chief officer of Citizens Advice Eastbourne said: “I am so proud of our volunteers and staff who have quickly rallied round to ensure no-one needs to face the financial challenges of Covid-19 alone.

“Over the past month our team has helped as many people as possible.”
