Flytippers dumped a large pile of waste, including building materials and an old mattress, in Barley Lane car park of Hastings Country Park.

The unsightly mess was discovered on Wednesday and reported to Hastings Borough Council.

The local resident who reported the incident said: “It is disgusting. It is such a beautiful area and unbelievable that anyone could do this.

“It must be costing the Council a fortune to clean up after these people in the middle of a pandemic.

Former Hastings Mayor Bruce Dowling said: “Whoever did this needs to be fined. I hope there is some evidence among the rubbish for the Council to follow up.”

Old Town councillor James Bacon said: “This is disgusting, I have reported it to our Waste Team and Rangers.”

Hastings Borough Council makes it clear on its website that it will prosecute flytippers.
