Hastings couple praised for selfless acts of kindness during uncertain time

Terry and his wife Hayley - who are well known through Terry's home removal and clearance business - have committed a large amount of their time to entertaining families in the area.

Terry has donned a variety of superhero and character costumes, standing outside the homes of local families with a portable stereo, dancing for and with - at a safe distance - the children and bringing smiles to their faces.

Together, Terry and Hayley have organised social distancing exercise classes, online quizzes for the adults and have done so without any request or expectation of anything in return.

Paul Deigan, who has created the hashtag #ununiformedlocalheroes (ununiformed local heroes) to celebrate the unseen positivity in the background of healthcare workers and essential staff members, has praised the couple.

He said: "In these times of worry, anxiety and unprecedented change in our daily lives, there are a number of local people doing the most incredible things to support the community we live in.

"In the unseen background of the healthcare workers, the supermarket staff, the emergency services and the public transport staff there is a growing number of ununiformed everyday people quietly and without great recognition performing the most selfless acts of community kindness.

"An example of this lays in local couple Terry 'Nut Nut' and his wife Hayley. They are simply committed to helping a part of the community, that may not otherwise see such kindness, smile.

"Those of us following some of the negativity on social media, or reading the far from positive news will know that there are real people, from within our communities, and some of them the poorest communities, doing the most amazing things for others. Let's keep recognising these people too."
