Lucy said: “Dexter is a little boy in my class and he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) on Friday December 13 last year.

“He’s had to endure test after test, blood tests, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, a porta cath fitted in his chest, lumbar punctures and bone marrow tests, just to name a few.

“He started a very intense induction of chemotherapy which lasted around sic weeks and in true Dexter style, he fought it so hard and we were told in February that he is in remission!

“He still has to have chemotherapy treatment every other week at the Conquest and also has to take a lot of medication at home. He has an oral chemo drug once a day, steroids twice a day, another oral chemo drug on just a Wednesday and a weekend antibiotic. Taking these medications affect his mood and appetite as well as making him tired and weak.

Dexter’s mum Jenna has had kidney disease, since the age of six. Her kidneys eventually failed at the end of April last year and she had to start dialysis straight away. Since then she has had to have dialysis three days a week (mon/wed/fri) for four hours each session. hen in August last year she had an allergic reaction to the dialysis and went into anaphylactic shock. She now has to have a special dialyser and anti-coagulation injection

“During this time Jenna has always spoken highly about the staff at the Conquest Hospital and she has always been able to put on a brave face for Dexter.

Added to the family’s current situation Jenna is now obviously self-isolating with Dexter and her other son Noah, due to the cornavirus.

“I wanted to raise money so that Dexter and his family can enjoy an extra special day out when all this is over and they have something to look forward to. I also want to support our local hospital as they are supporting so many families at the moment in a difficult situation.”
