St Mary's Church in Thakeham celebrates completion of extension project

The parish service was presided over by the Bishop of Chichester Martin Warner and marked the completion of a building renewal project.

The church’s new extension provides vestry space, baby changing and toilets as well as upgraded lighting, heating and electrics throughout the church which have modernised the space.

The interior of the church has been given a new layout to improve access and provide more flexible space so that the church can be used beyond Sunday services.

The building work was undertaken by Valley Builders Ltd.

The project design was awarded a ‘highly commended’ at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards 2022 to Vallis and Hall Conservation Architects.

Mr Griffith said: “Worship has taken place on the site for almost one thousand years so terrific to see these modifications to benefit parishioners for decades to come.”
