Up to 150 children took part in the Yapton Holiday Club, held every day last week in the big tent by the village hall.

The always popular club, run by Yapton Free Church together with St Mary’s Church, marked its 24th year of music, dancing, games and all round good fun.

Yapton Free Church pastor Hugo van Driel said: “The week was really good again.

“This was the 24th year that we’ve held holiday club and again we had up to 150 kids a day aged from five to 11.

“With the 40 or 50 volunteers we had over 200 people in the tent at times.

“Many of the helpers came as children and loved it so much they’ve come back as volunteers.”

As always there was plenty to keep everyone entertained throughout the free week - from singing, quizzes, music and stories in the big tent, to games and activities on the green.

Prizes were given out on the Friday night by football freestyle champion Daniel Cutter, who gave a 15 minute demonstration of his skills.

The always the popular ‘gunge tank’, where every day two leaders got ‘gunged’, turned into a baptism pool on the last Sunday for six adults to get baptised in.
