Police called over woman’s welfare

POLICE were called to a busy road in Battle following reports that a distressed woman was trying to run out into traffic.

Several police cars raced to the scene in Hastings Road at around 1.30pm on Wednesday April 16.

Officers briefly closed the road amid concerns for the woman’s safety.

The woman, who is believed to be aged in her 50s, then barricaded herself in a nearby house.

Police officers negotiated with the distressed woman.

She eventually emerged from the building and was taken to receive medical treatment.

Sussex Police officers were on the scene for around two hours.
