The application for the Chanctonbury Nurseries site, in Rectory Lane, was given the nod during a meeting of the planning committee on Tuesday (December 20).

The plans include a public open space with outdoor gym equipment, while 26 of the homes will be classed as affordable.

The council received 12 letters of objection, which raised concerns including increased traffic along Rectory Lane, flooding, and the fact that previous plans to build 77 homes on the site had been refused in 2016.

The committee heard from one resident who said there was simply not enough infrastructure to cope with the additional homes and cars.

Officers advised that many of the objections related to earlier plans for a footpath between the site and Covert Mead. That footpath was not included in the final application.
