Raise a mug for Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Hundreds of Observer readers will be raising their coffee cups tomorrow to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity's annual World's Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday (September 25) and has, as always, prompted dozens of individuals and local businesses to organise events large and small to support a cause which is close to so many hearts.

Among them is Dorothy Marsh of Bognor Regis who is something of a World's Biggest Coffee Morning veteran, having hosted events for more than 12 years. She was prompted to start in 1986 when her brother-in-law was diagnosed with bone cancer before sadly passing away the following year.

Sally Paice from Selsey is holding her third coffee morning at her children's music group to support the range of Macmillan Cancer Support services which she found so invaluable when she was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 46.

Sally, who runs a children's music group on a Friday morning holds the coffee morning afterwards.

"The children's families make the cakes and we all have a great time. It makes us feel good and it raises valuable funds for an amazing charity."

Myra Gibbs moved to the Witterings only recently but plans to run her sixth event for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

She began actively supporting Macmillan after losing her brother-in-law to cancer and throughout the year she makes and sells cards and crochets baby clothes.

Myra's coffee mornings have grown so much over the years that she usually begins making cakes in July to freeze, as she sells around 70-80 on the day as well as quiches, a raffle and stall.

This year will be a challenge for her as she is new to the area but she said: "You feel good being part of the coffee morning and helping such an important charity."
