Recommendation for Ford Eco-town select committee to be disbanded

A few sentences ended the eco-town opposition by Arun District Council at a meeting last week.

Graham Tyler, the chairman of the council's special Ford Eco-town select committee, formally recommended it should be disbanded.

He told the meeting of the full council the decision by the government to abandon Ford as site for the 5,000-home development vindicated the council's decision to set up the select committee.

He described its work as unique and superb. It included holding an inquiry into the proposals.

"The outcome is extremely desirable. That is not to say we need to take our eye off the ball but the recommendation is to disband the sub-committee," he said.

The sub-committee's final meeting '“ on August 5 '“ lasted just ten minutes.
