Recycling above national average

WEALDEN is working on a number of initiatives to improve recycling and reduce waste.

A strategy document placed before council members at a district council cabinet meeting explained achievements to date which already show a 29 per cent recycling and composting rate on rubbish collected, well above the national average.

Future aims include working towards recovering 50 per cent of waste for recycling, composting or producing energy by 2010; working towards kerbside recyclking of at least two materials to all Wealden households by the same year; developing plastics recycling; reducing the council's own carbon emissions and running trials on waste minimisation and recycling.
