Resident claims Rother refuse collections are rubbish

A BEXHILL resident and well-known town trader is claiming that the Rother Refuse and Recycling bin collections, in the area where he lives, are rubbish.

Nick Wells, proprietor of Wells shoe shop in Sackville Road, resides in Cornwall Road and said that six bins, which are sited at the end of Cornwall Road are a major problem for him and other residents in the street.

"The six black wheelie bins at the end of Cornwall Road actually belong to flats in Wickham Avenue an shouldn't even be on this street.

"Every Tom, Dick and Harry uses them and people regularly drive up in their cars and dump bags full of rubbish.

2The council empty the bins on a Thursday but by Monday they are full and overflowing."

Nick claims that when the bins are emptied rubbish and debris is left behind. Leaving items such as nappies and sanitary towels strewn all over the pavement and street, which he regularly clears up.

Nick said: "If I don't clear it up, the rubbish that's left blows up the street and all over my garden.

"I shouldn't have to clear it up '“ it's a health hazard, we'll be getting rats next. Clearly the council collections aren't working.

"They're not interested in the problem, they just sweep it under the carpet, all they say when I call them is that they are looking in to it. Street cleaners should be sent round."

Rother head of amenities Madeleine Gorman said: "We take any suggestion of waste being spilled on the highways very seriously and will be asking our contractors to monitor the situation at Cornwall Road before reporting back to us.

"We would like to thank Mr Wells for notifying us of the situation as all comments made to the Council help us to achieve a better service."
