Spring Task Afternoon: if you are available on Sunday 29th March between 2pm – 4pm and would like to be out side and helping out the community why not go down to Pocket Park for the spring tidy up. This is to clear pathways and bushes etc. and make the Pocket Park accessible after the winter months. If you have secateurs, loppers and definitely gloves please can you take them along with you. Access is by the Bridge by the football pitch and of course this is only if weather permits.

Another message from Sandie: a couple of weeks ago Sandie was having problems with rubbish bags being dumped in her shop doorway. Last week there were no sacks so we thought that who ever was the culprit had read our column and decided against it. This week the sacks were back. They were dumped over night between 10pm and 6.45am. The bin men pick up rubbish from black bins, if the person doing this does not have one please contact the Council, if your bin is not big enough again contact the Council. Please who ever this may be remember 2 things, firstly it is a health hazard and secondly there is a person living in the flat above and this door gets used. So be fair and stop this laziness.

DARTS: We finished our season against The Millers Arms losing 6-1 with Michael Stone our only victor and there were 100+ scores from David Goodsell[121] and Stuart Miller[100] while we lost all the pairs matches. We confirmed top spot in the pushpenny winning 4-1 with wins for Michael Stone, Ted Goldfinch, Dave Fortsch and David Goodsell while there were ‘goldwatches’ for Alan Apps[1] and David Goodsell[1]. Tonight is the Captains Cup and Charity Night at Mountfield Club 8p.m. We are holding the very popular ‘Open Pairs Darts Knockout’ on Sunday 5th April 2015 @ Robertsbridge Club with registration at 7.30p.m with entry just £1. There will be fun for all and of course the very popular raffle.

FOOTBALL: The 1st team hosted Ninfield United in a must win game in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division and it started so well for The Bridge with a goal in the first minute from Dominic Whittaker but from then on the rest of the half belonged to the visitors as they pressed for an equaliser hitting the bar on 17 minutes and they got their reward when a free kick went through The Bridge’ wall after 21 minutes. The Bridge eventually got a shot on target on 41 minutes when man of the match Phil Green found Paul Barnes whose effort was saved. The second period was stalemate for most of the half until ten minutes from the end when Ninfield were awarded a free kick 40 yards out and the very accurate left foot of their left back saw keeper Grant Lewis off his line to lob the ball into the top corner. It looked all over for The Bridge until a goalmouth scramble saw Sam Betts prod the ball home for a point in their relegation fight. The 2nd team also played at home against Hampden Park United and The Bridge were the better team from the start with a few early strikes on goal and when we did get it in the net the visitors linesman flagged for an offside. The pressure eventually told on the visitors when man of the match Matt Winchester netted on 37 minutes. Ten minutes into the second period The Bridge suffered a nasty injury to young Ben Thorpe and this affected the team during the rest of the game with neither keeper being troubled as The Bridge secured all three points in Division 6. Tomorrow is the big day when Peter Reid will be at The Recreation Ground to manage the 2nd team’s home match against Battle Baptists III K.O. 2p.m. This is your chance to see a footballing legend at work as he manages the 2nd team and after the match he will be at Robertsbridge Club for a Q & A session from 5.30p.m. so if you have a question you would like to ask please come along and enjoy the day with Robertsbridge United F.C. Next Saturday[28th] we are holding a ‘Race Night’ at Robertsbridge Club from 7.30p.m. This is a free event for anybody to come along and have some fun even if you don’t want to bet it is still a lot of fun. There will also be a raffle to raise funds for the Football Club.
