Rodmell and Southease

SUMMER: Summer was a little late in starting, but when it reached some of the high temperatures it really went to town and it must have given all those involved in the tourism business a boost, which was probably needed after a bad start.

TRAFFIC: I have to admit that whilst I was sitting on my sun-chair in the garden, reading the paper and drinking my iced drink, I felt so sorry for all those people stuck in traffic jams. It must have been a horrendous start to their holiday and they also didn’t know how it would be coming back.

AMUSING: I did hear one item of new which I would say amused me, be it black humour.
Evidently a plane had to return to an airport shortly after taking off as people complained of the strong smell of cannabis on board. I suspect it will appear on some alternative humour programme at some time. Just imagine if the same thing happened in the air-conditioning in the Houses of parliament, but would we notice, since when you watch it on TV at times it all seems a bit crazy. I sometimes wonder at times if our politicians have, gone to pot.

THE C7: Is yet again a topic of conversation with people around here. It’s busier than ever, with the amount of traffic increasing because of the rail problems. Cyclists are in abundance and I know I would not like to ride a bike along this road as drivers get so impatient and overtake cyclists in the most dangerous areas. There is a lot of tail-gating because people don’t like to stick to the speed limits and get cross with those that do. These people probably live in the area and know how dangerous it can be. The cyclist who rides one of those bikes where you pedal almost lying out straight on your back is very courageous, or bonkers. Evidently several cars have ended up in fields again. What speed were they doing?

NEWHAVEN: Another bone of contention with people is Newhaven, where it’s very difficult at times to get over in the right hand lane when coming off the C7 and wanting to go to Brighton. People are reluctant to let you in, then when they get to the lanes near the traffic lights they take the Bridge Street turn off and jump the queue to get onto the coast road and cut across people driving from Seaford direction. More manners on the road would be helpful.

SUMMER SHOW: The village is getting busy for the Rodmell Summer Show on Saturday August 20, 2pm to 4pm.

ARTWAVE: People are also looking forward to Artwave in the Old Rectory, Saturday to Monday, August 27 to 29.

SOUTHEASE: I don’t have anything to write about Southease hamlet at the moment apart from the fact that the village will have a stall for its produce at Lewes Chilli Day at the end of September. Chillies have to be mild for me to enjoy I’m afraid. I really made a spectacle of myself at a Thai restaurant once, by nearly chocking to death on a really hot chilli – never again.
