Schools' healthy eating activities

STUDENTS at Bexhill High School have been quizzed on healthy eating as part of a series of fun activities organised by school catering company Scolarest during the school's Healthy Lifestyle Week.

The school's catering team arranged a quiz for students with the answers on healthy eating posters displayed in the dining room.

Students entering the quiz had the chance to win a basketball. Scolarest also gave away fresh fruit, fruit juices and milk drinks to students who choose a food item bearing a lucky sticker.

As part of the week, Scolarest catering manager Annette Fearn set up a healthy food information display in the dining room with cereals, rice, pasta, pulses and fruit and vegetables.

Pupils at King Offa Primary School, which shares the High School restaurant, also took part in the healthy eating activities.

Scolarest organised a competition for children at King Offa challenging them to draw a picture to illustrate how they stay healthy.

Annette Fearn said: "We've always worked closely with the two schools to encourage students to eat healthily.

"We like to do things that make it fun for them to learn more about how to eat a balanced diet and how it helps them stay fit and well.

"Our students already know a lot about eating well and enjoy our healthy menus. Some of the most popular dishes on the High School menu are vegetable wraps, curry and pasta as well as our pots of chopped fresh fruit and salad boxes. Both the secondary and primary school pupils also have fresh-baked bread with their meals."
