This Saturday, September 7 there will be a Boot Fayre at the village hall , TN33 OQN, open to the public from 2-4pm. There will be many stall holders selling their goods, and also a sale of good quality toys that will be sold at an excellent rate. Many of these are wooden toys, girl, boys, dressing up clothes and wheelie bugs. This is due to the sad closure of a toddler group so come along and don’t miss out. Doors open 2pm with refreshments available throughout the afternoon. All are welcome, entrance fee 50p.

If you are interested in having a stall at the indoor boot fayre there may still be some space available at £10 per table, please contact Karen on 01424 882022 for further details .

Sedlescombe and District flower club have another super evening planned at the village hall on Wednesday September 11 when the club meets to watch Lynne Carter demonstrating the title “Floratastic” and you could be there too. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, you will get the opportunity to enjoy a creative experience whilst picking up some interesting tips and ideas. For anyone who loves flowers, and that includes those of us whose knowledge extends to getting out a vase and filling it with water, then this evening is for you. Members and visitors are always welcome, if you don’t try it you don’t know if you are going to like it.

Flower club members only competition for this month is, Any 5 Flowers. Members can arrange however they like but you must have 5 flowers, no more and no less. This is not a compulsory part of the evening but the more that take part the more practice and ideas for all so do please try and bring something along.

Sedlescombe WI say Thank you to everyone that came along to their Quiz night last week. It was well attended by eight teams all battling it out to become the winners and the end result was very close with only one point in it. Fish and chips arrived during the evening which helped the brains to focus. Another thank you is due to the organisers for giving us such an enjoyable village event.

Now I do not want to sound sexist but I think this next item might just be for the ladies of the village. When you next go to Battle please take your unwanted bras with you, they can be used to help charity projects in the UK and abroad. Battle Waste and Recycling Group have launched a bra recycling scheme. Unwanted bras, in any condition but clean, can be taken to collection points at Knickknicks, and Battle Post office. The bras are then sent to a central depot, sorted and then sent out to Africa. This scheme also supports Breast Cancer Research and 1066 Cycle Club projects. This is an ongoing project and your support, pardon the pun, is much appreciated.

Please mark your diary for the end of the month when there will be a flower festival at our parish church, St John the Baptist, over the weekend of September 28 and 29.
