Senlac District Scouts' St George's Day Celebration

SENLAC District Scouts' St George's Day Celebration on April 27 will again be a Sunday afternoon spectacular, with the Parade starting from Budgen's Car Park, Battle, at 2.20.

The celebration will again be a spectacular event with flags flying and Scout Groups marching to familiar tunes headed by Battle Town Band.

Following Scouting's Centenary Year, the theme is set for Visions of 100 Years Time.

Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts will add colour and intrigue to their ideas, dressing as would be seen when the end of another Scout Century is reached.

The colour and pageantry will move to St Mary's Church, where the Union Flag, St George's Flag and full compliment of sectional colours (blue, yellow and green) will be paraded down the nave to the chancel to be received by the Dean of Battle.

One More Step along the World I Go heralded by the magnificence of the organ will lead to the presentation of good service awards to deserving adults.

Following a reading, an interpretation of the century yet-to-come will be presented as live drama by Beaver Scouts.

Lord The Light of Your Love Is Shining will lead into a Cub Scout interpretation of a future Scout fraternity those in attendance are unlikely to witness.

After the singing of Jerusalem, Scouts will continue the celebration with their interpretation of a future in Scouting - holographic uniforms, a 'Space Scout ' uniform, a uniform for ' global warming ', an alien investiture, designer hair styles and the proficiency badges of the age displayed on upright poles will be accompanied by music to fire the imagination.

The traditional Renewal of Promises will be led by respective Commissioners, followed by reading of the Dedication: "I give you my hands to do your work; I give you my feet to go your way; I give you my tongue to speak your truth."

The ceremony of the Return of the Colours will progress during the hymn Oh Jesus I have Promised.After the National Anthem the Dean will give a final blessing for the Movement.

Civic leaders from Bexhill and Battle and representatives from service clubs have been invited to join East Sussex County Scout Commissioner Ian Kirby in supporting the occasion.

With a Guard of Honour, flags flying and ' eyes left ', Battle Town Band will lead the parade back up Battle High Street.
