THIS is a campaign, led by the Scout Association to get more people outside, living healthier lifestyles by encouraging parents and young people to engage in a million outdoor adventures across the U.K. With parents entering with their children the outdoor participation is fun for all to assist trained leaders to present the balanced programme. Be involved and add to the global 28 million fellowship.

9th Bexhill Group

THE 9th Bexhill Scout Troop team who entered the Colditz Challenge were victorious in being awarded the Skills Trophy - the first occasion such an achievement has been recorded in Senlac District. Being a team-based event (four) a full afternoon of activity consisted of numerous assessments - use of Scouting skills, whether it be ropework and pioneering, first aid, compass work, navigation and orienteering, survival techniques, camping skills, leadership, cooking and initiative challenges. The Scout group has now accumulated 112,000 towards re-building of the Wainwright Road H.Q. A further 20,000 is still needed. Explorer Scouts link with Rotary International

THE youth opportunities committee, Rotary Club of Senlac, is sponsoring two local Explorer Scouts to attend District 1120 Rotary Youth Leadership Award weekend to be held at Arethusa Venture Centre, Lower Upnor, Kent, during the weekend of October 3-5. The course will include icebreaker exercises, high ropes, low ropes, blind trail, rock climbing, problem solving, Operation Medway and action centred leadership, with emphasis on development of self confidence, enhance self-esteem, effective communication/delegation.

Alliance Explorer Scouts

FIVE Alliance Explorer Scouts - James Pettitt, Jacob Barton, Sam Vernon, Mathew Nash and Chris Hayward - have recently been presented with Platinum Award Certificates having completed activities involving emphasis on international, environment and values. Further assessments included skills, physical recreation, service and expeditions (Lake District, South Downs Overland, and Snowdonia). Similar requirements, higher standard will now progress towards the Duke of Edinburgh standards and Diamond Award.

Largest Scout Group leads at Bexhill Carnival

BEST in Show and Club Class for float presentation was awarded to the 3rd Bexhill Scout Group for their portrayal of the popular TV programme 'Casualty '. Never have so many doctors and nurses been seen parading the streets of Bexhill! Hearty congratulations!

Volunteering

The Morgan Enquiry includes recommendations for a flexible day off to encourage volunteering, an 'industry standard' award scheme to acknowledge skills developed through volunteering and better signposting of voluntary opportunities.

WITH the Scout Association 'balanced programme' now proven and attractive membership numbers are rising fast with waiting lists, all sections. Parents/guardians are required to volunteer their help and support for entry of their children into Scouting and share a roster system. The exciting, challenging and adventurous balanced programme cannot succeed without adults! Trained leaders need help! It's fun for all!

Calling all ex-Senlac Scouts
