Shiver me timbers, mum's coming along for the looting

It's a typical pirate's dilemma. There you are, ready for some blood-curdling, swash-buckling plundering adventure on the high seas.

You set sail with the skull and crossbones proudly flying '“ and your mum turns up for a bit of cruise with you. And '“ just when you think your life couldn't get worse '“ your greatest rival also makes an appearance as you make your way to South America.

What happened next was the subject of South Bersted CoE Primary School's latest school play.

Sixty-one of its pupils, aged ten and 11, told the tale of Roger Ravenbeard, his mother and his challenger, Partial Jack Spatula, before two audiences of family members.

They were entertained as the maritime drama unfolded with its cast of brigands and buccaneers and lost and found caches of buried treasure.
