Sir Dexter at Bexhill High

There will be "lots of smiling faces and proud parents" when GCSE results are announced at Bexhill High.

That's the promise of the head of the private company brought in to help out at the school.

Sir Dexter Hutt says he is delighted to have been asked by executive principal Mike Conn to be involved with running of Bexhill High as it prepares for change.

Last week the Observer reported how Mike is stepping down from his role until September 2010 to oversee the move to the new 38million building in Gunters Lane.

He was concerned how best to fill the hole left by his temporary departure, so invited Ninestiles - a company based in Birmingham - to work with Year 11 students.

Dexter told the Observer he sees the work at Bexhill High as 'an exciting project' for his team.

"The invitation to work with Bexhill High between now and August is one we were delighted to accept," he said.

"Mike Conn and his Governing Body's vision for the new school building is an exciting and inspirational one.

"However they are equally determined that the current Year 11 students are given every opportunity to achieve thier best.

"So our brief is to work closely with acting Head Di Hawksby to support those students to achieve the best possible results.

"We will be focusing particulary on maths and english, and Advanced Skills Teachers from Ninestiles will be working closely with the maths and english teaching teams at Bexhill.

"This is an exciting project for us to be involved with - we start work formally this week and the result should be lots of smiling faces and proud parents when current Year 11 students collect their GCSE results in August."

Ninestiles is best known locally for working with The Grove, Hillcrest and Filsham Valley in Hastings.

The Grove and Hillcrest achieved the most improved results in East Sussex last summer.

Ninestiles has always worked with schools in Birmingham and Gloucester, and all of them subsequently scored the most improved examination results in their local authority.

Mike Conn commented: "This is an exciting time for our pupils, parents and staff, and the decision to invite Ninestiles to support us is a massive boost.

"Sir Dexter has an amazing track record and my message to him has been simple - help us keep on track so our Year 11 students perform well in their GCSEs.

"This is a very busy time as we manage the transfer to our amazing new school in Gunters Lane.

"It would be wrong to manage a successful move without at the same time keeping focused on our current pupils. Ninestiles will support my management team achieve success.

"I cannot do both things - that is manage the school on a daily basis and also complete the move to our new school - so I had to make a key decision. I am convinced what we are doing is best for our pupils.'
