PUBLIC INFORMATION NOTICE: It would seem that no matter in which direction you may be travelling, if you are using the roads, then you are certain to come across the bane of all motorists - those dreaded road works. At the moment there are many road works in operation in this area to watch out for: On the B2089, Broad Oak, Udimore to Rye road, outside Burnt House Farm. BT broadband works are taking place. These are due to finish on 27th March and are presently operating a 2-way temporary traffic light system.-off-peak working only. At Hurst Green -the A21 (London road) the works on the footpath closure are for the removal of the existing vehicle crossover. and tarmac coating for a new crossover and footpath. These works will take place between 20th and 23rd March.2015. Also there will be ‘White Lining’ in Hurst Green, again on the A21 London road these will incur lane closures but as they will be night works during 20th to 31st March hopefully not too much disruption will take place. Closer to home, but still on the A21.at Kent Street, Westfield, there will be drainage and other street works taking place, again during the night, and traffic lights will also be in place. The road works are expected to continue until approximately 11th April. 2015. EWHURST PARISH COUNCIL: Lots of things are happening within our parish community at present. Here are some of them for your immediate notice. The eagle-eyed members of the community, may have noticed strange ‘boxes’ being placed on the outside walls of the pubs in the three villages that make up Ewhurst Parish. - The White Hart, at Cripps Corner, The Cross Inn at Staplecross and The White Dog at Ewhurst Green. These are in fact, ‘Public Access Defibrillators’ (P.A.D.) - more commonly known as ‘ De-fibs’. Purchased and provided by Ewhurst Parish Council, and in liaison with Rother Responders, each PAD has been placed in a strategic position which will allow any member of the public access to it should the need arise. Over 30,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest each year in the U.K. and a patient’s chance of survival decreases by around 14% per minute without defibrillation following a cardiac arrest. As such, it is vital that emergency medical treatment begins as soon as possible. The instructions for use of these ‘Defibs’ are simple, clear, precise and vocal, and gives the user or operator easy to follow instructions, assisting you at every step of the way. The using of these machines is nothing to be afraid of and the Emergency Ambulance Control Room operators will also be constantly on hand to help and support you during this time, whilst the ambulance is on it’s way to you. If defibrillation is delivered promptly, survival rates as high as 75% can be achieved. Community First Responders (CFR) are ordinary members of the public who volunteer their time to be available to respond to selected emergency 999 calls, to help other members of the community when help such as this,is needed. Classes offering training to our community residents in the use of these ‘De-fibs’ are being suggested in the near future - and if nothing else is achieved, it will hopefully take away the fear of using these amazing units which are so vital to our widespread and rural areas. - and you’ll save a precious life in doing so. New play equipment for the children’s play park in Northiam Road, Staplecross as promised, is slowly coming to fruition with several exciting items due to be installed in the very near future, hopefully in time for the long school summer holidays. I won’t spoil the surprise by revealing what’s in store for the delight and enjoyment of the little ones, but hours of fun are on the horizon. As many of you are now aware, a new, super ‘Teen Shelter’ has already been erected on a corner alongside this area. This is primarily for the use of our teenagers and young members of our community to meet up in and enjoy what we hope will be a place of their own. This shelter has the added benefit of solar panel lighting which we hope will enable the youngsters to make more use of it during the lovely long evenings of the long summer months. A waste bin and ‘ciggie’ disposal bin will be added very soon which we hope will encourage the users of their new shelter to use wisely. - Please enjoy it.

The members of the Ewhurst Parish Allotment Association are already spending time at their lovely allotments situated along in Lordine Lane, Ewhurst Green, in preparation for the season ahead. The new sheds should shortly be placed on their ‘own turf’ and will hopefully make life a lot easier for them as they plan and plant and sow and reap. There are still TWO plots available here and if you are interested in growing your own fruit and vegetables - or flowers- and would like to become a member and rent a plot, then please contact the Secretary of the association, Jacqui Hyett on 01580~830576. There’s nothing to beat the satisfaction of seeing the results of all your hard work come to fruition. Food grown by your own hands will always be the best you’ve tasted and this may be just the opportunity for you to do so. The allotments are already ring fenced with a water supply and there is parking available. The allotment holders are a friendly and helpful group of like-minded ‘growers’, who were amazed at the great results of their efforts in just their first year of using these plots, and YOU could doing the same ~ so why not give Jacqui a call ?

EWHURST,& STAPLECROSS BONFIRE SOCIETY: A quick reminder that the Bonfire Boys Jumble Sale will be held TOMORROW Saturday March 21st at the Village Hall in Staplecross . Doors will open at 2.0pm to all those people, searching for the many bargains, and there promises to be an abundance of these. Refreshments will be available to keep you going and a cake stall and a raffle will also add to your enjoyment of the afternoon. All items for donation can be brought to the hall from 9.30am onwards and if this poses a problem please contact either John on 01580~830744 or Brian on 01580~830570 who will try to arrange for the collection of it. The monies raised from this venture will go towards the society’s funds which along with their major event of their calendar year, the Torchlight Procession, Bonfire and Firework display held in Staplecross, in November, will also allow them to donate to their own charitable and local causes at the end of the year. Please come along and support this worthwhile fund-raising event.

CONSERVATIVE OPEN MEETING: Following on from the success of his previous open meetings in other areas, Mr. Huw Merriman, who is the recently selected Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, would like to issue an open invitation to all and sundry to come along and meet him and discuss any concerns you may have. His other fellow party members, East Sussex County Councillor, Angharad Davies and Rother District Councillor, Tony Ganly, will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Two more dates have been arranged and the first is for Saturday March 21st (TOMORROW.)Saturday March 21st at 10.0am in Etchingham, at the bistro on Etchingham Station. If you can’t make this date, try to come along to the next meeting which will be held on Tuesday 24th March at 7.30pm. This event will be held in the Community Centre at Heathfield. ROTHER RAMBLERS: Still out & abouting, those members of the Rother Ramblers who constantly stride around our beautiful countryside and enjoy every moment of the free, fresh air, have arranged two (2) more walks for our enjoyment. Walk No: 1 is a 6 mile Wartling circular, part of the fascinating Pevensey Levels and is planned for Wednesday March 25th. CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday March 22nd. Lent 5 at 9.30am. This service will include Holy Communion (BCP) A service at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross, will follow directly afterwards at 11.15am. This service will also include Holy Communion. There will be NO SERVICE held today at St. Giles church, Bodiam.
