Staplecross

This is going to be rather short and sweet this week, and although there are still activities going on within our parish,a lot of folk are taking advantage of this glorious weather and making the most of being outdoors, whether you are spending time in your own garden, out on day trips, off on holidays or whatever, being out of doors in the sunshine, makes us all feel happier and we do smile more, -- it’s official- we’re all much nicer when it’s sunny.

Rother District Council have sent a couple of items of interest for your notice. The first is that the Rother District Citizens Advice Bureau now provides an e-mail service. Access to this service is via their website:www.rotherdistrictcab.org.uk Just click on ‘Online Email Service; fill in the web forms and submit an online enquiry. Seems quite an easy thing to do,and they aim to answer any query within 5 working days but they also state that this bureau will still continue to offer advice in person, or by the telephone. The staff of this bureau are there to offer as much help, advice and guidance as they can, so if you have a problem or a query, get in touch with them and allow them to try and help solve it.

The second notification, is one that every resident will most certainly know about, in one way or another. I’m talking about the changes about to take place regarding our waste & recycling services.

Information packs which include new calenders for all the new collections, have been dropping through all the letterboxes advising residents of what is going to happen to our refuse and recycling collections and when this new service will commence. With effect from Monday June 30th. this new service will begin it’s new roll-out operations throughout our region. Household waste will still be collected in your BLACK bin, as per normal but the GREEN bin, which was used to recycle garden waste is now ONLY to be used for recycling materials and everything that can be recycled can all be placed in this one bin. From the end of June garden waste collections will be a ‘paid for service and those residents who have registered and paid the annual fee now (should) also have a BROWN bin and will know that THIS bin supercedes the green bin and is only to be used for garden waste recycling and you should have received your collection calendar advising you of when this new service will start in your area. If you have not registered for this service and are unable to compost, please take your garden waste to the local Household Waste Recycling Site at Mountfield. Garden waste will ONLY be collected from the BROWN wheelie bin but you may still register for the next phase of the service, planned for Autumn 2014. For more information visit www.rother.gov.uk/gardenwaste - Now comes the exciting bit !- Those little black and green boxes which were previously used for paper and plastics are now to be used for GLASS. All glass bottles and jars, of all colours, shapes and sizes, can now be put into these boxes for kerbside collection on the SAME DAY as your recycling day.( the green bin.) Please DO NOT put Pyrex/ovenproof glassware, mirrors, window glass, light bulbs or drinking glasses into these boxes. These are made from a different type of glass which cannot be reprocessed in the same way as bottles and jars. These have to be taken to the local tip site at Mountfield. It all sounds very confusing to begin with but hopefully, should work out very well, but if you have any queries or concerns please contact Rother District Council at any of these sites; by telephone 01424~787000 or 08431~047788 or visit: http://www.rother.gov.uk/ or [email protected] ~ They’ll soon put you right !

Continuing with their busy schedule, the Staplecross Bowls Club have three more matches lined up for this week. Tuesday July 1st finds them playing against Sidley Martlets with a 2pm start. Wednesday July 2nd is an evening away match, beginning at 6.15pm, with their opponents being Hawkhurst. How lovely it must be to play in the cooler conditions of the evening and nothing is nicer than an English summer evening in the countryside. The only information that I have for the club’s next match is that it’s on Saturday July 5th and that it is an away match against Hellingly (5) I’ll bring you the results and up-to-date-standings of how the club are faring as soon as I have them to hand.

More activity out in the fresh air and still finding a wide variety of paths to tread are those members of the Rother Ramblers. There are two (2) delightful walks for us to choose from this week and the first is a mere 10.5 mile circular walk via Wadhurst Park. Taking place on Tuesday July 1st. those folk with stamina and strong legs, who would like to join in this group, will meet at Stonegate Village Hall (SatNavTN57DZ) at 10.am A picnic lunch is suggested and of course your four footed friend may accompany you. Carol is the ‘walk leader’ on this occasion and you may ring her on: 01580~852432 for all further information. The second walk planned for our delight and in a completely different direction is not so far, (!) - only 10 miles this time and is planned for Sunday July 6th. Encompassing Rushlake Green,-Brightling Down and Three Cups this delightful circular walk promises some lovely scenery for you to stop and admire on the way. If you’d like to join in on this walk please meet at Rushlake Green (SatNavTN219QE) at 10.am. There is ‘on street’ parking around the Green, but please park prettily and considerately and avoid inconveniencing the residents. A picnic lunch is again suggested, with the locality being near one of “Fuller’s Follies”. Naturally, a walk is never the same without man’s best friend, so your dog is also welcome to walk and enjoy the free, fresh air with you. That nice chappie who is arranging this walk and is also ‘walk leader’ is Tim and you can contact him on:01424~272459. Don’t forget, -please do say hello upon arriving, don’t be shy, friends are much nicer than strangers, so make a stranger, a friend and this will make these walks all the more enjoyable.

A lovely local village event, which is always very popular is the Summer Fayre. Hosted by Staplecross Methodist County Primary School, this will be taking place on the school field (weather permitting, so fingers’ crossed!) on Friday July 4th. between 3.30pm and 6pm. Naturally, there will be the usual much loved, traditional fete stalls and side shows, which naturally will include refreshments, in the line of teas, coffees, and of course, cakes. There will be a super duper tombola, with some great mystery prizes’ and if that’s not enough, there’ll be some games, a bouncy castle and a few craft stalls as well. Everyone is very warmly invited, especially any residents of the parish, and the school hope to see as many people there as possible, so do please come along, spend generously, if you can, at the stalls, and refreshments and know that all monies gathered will go towards making the school a better place to be and the children happier little folk, because of it.

Don’t forget to contact me if there are any events that you’d like me to help promote. This column encourages all local clubs societies, associations, sports groups as well as any projects you may have, to make announcements and inform the rest of our area about your events. Hopefully, this may encourage new members, or more spectators, or maybe just more support, financial or otherwise. Whatever you’re planning,--- please tell me and I’ll tell everyone else and we’ll see what happens....

Thank you....
