In September last year the College of Policing issued interim guidance on how forces can carry out police fitness tests following a recommendation in the Winsor Review. Since then, the majority of forces have been testing the fitness of their officers using the recommended test.

The results from those tests are being collated by the college so it can carry out an equality impact assessment before the test becomes a requirement for all forces in September 2014.

A police spokesman said: “We are pleased with our officers’ excellent pass rate, which is above the national average. We have introduced fitness testing in a supportive manner with champions on divisions, support on line, practice runs and guidance. It shows our officers’ commitment.”
