Taser used on "gun man".

Police used a taser stun gun to subdue a suspected gunman in Sidley at the weekend.

A motorist told police how he had been involved in an argument on Buxton Drive with two men, one of whom he said pulled a gun from his pocket and hit the windscreen with his fist. He called the police, and firearms unit officers and a search helicopter began to comb the area.

The pair, both in their 20's, were said to have attacked another man in Sidley Recreation Ground, with the victim beaten with a pole - however he did not suffer serious injury.

Police found the suspect in Sidley recreation ground where, because of his behaviour, it was necessary to use the taser delivering 50,000 volts.

He was then arrested for assault and criminal damage. The second suspect was arrested shortly after without incident.

A fingertip search of the area was carried out but no fire-arm has been recovered.
