Teenager hit barman at Bar One

A TEENAGER appeared before Hastings magistrates after assaulting a barman.

Joel Eldridge, 18, of Glenthorn Road, was charged with punching a member of staff in the face at Bar One on June 23 this year.

Prosecuting David O'Driscoll said: "The victim was attempting to eject his friend from the bar, when Eldridge became involved.

"He shouted 'You can't take him outside' before hitting the barman in the face, causing bleeding."

The police were called and arrested Eldridge, who made no comment at interview. Defending Richard Body said: "He had been drinking more than he usually does as he works at McDonalds and his wages aren't very high.

"He saw one of his friends being ejected but thought he was being set upon by strangers so became involved.

"He accepts he was drunk and used unreasonable force."

Eldridge, who has three previous convictions for dissimilar matters, was in breach of a recent conditional discharge for criminal damage.

Hastings magistrates adjourned the case while a report is compiled about Eldridge's drinking.

He was released on bail pending sentencing in September.
