TOWN HALL HITS BACK IN RENT ROW

ARUNDEL Town Council has hit back at claims that high town hall hiring charges are putting it beyond the use of local residents and community associations.

The accusations came from Worthing resident Antony Fenner in a letter to the West Sussex Gazette last week, who claimed hiring costs had been increased to more than 2,000 a day.

But the council says residents are automatically entitled to a 15 per cent discount.

Town clerk Peter Welch said: "They pay their precept and so it's right that when they want to use the town hall they get the benefit of reduced rates."

Mr Welch added that in some instances if it's a charitable event or something for the benefit of Arundel residents the council may subsidise part or all of the costs.
