Traders urged to make the most of Games

West Sussex businesses are being urged to make the most of the Olympics and Paralympics, with the next round of workshops for firms keen to bid for London 2012 contracts starting this month.

There are more than 6,000 business contracts on offer for the 2012 Games.

West Sussex '“ Ahead of the Game, the countywide initiative to help the county make the most of the games, is supporting businesses to find out what is on offer and to be ready to bid for contracts.

Five 2012 business support workshops will take place in West Sussex between September and November, organised by Business Link:

n Monday, September 14 '“ Bid Writing and Tendering Workshop, Crawley Civic Hall. To inform businesses of best practice if shortlisted for a London 2012 contract, or bidding for a public sector contract.

n Monday, October 5 '“ Fit2Supply Workshop, Shoreham Airport, Shoreham-by-Sea. To help businesses prepare to bid for contracts, how to bid and what to do if shortlisted.

n Tuesday, October 20 '“ Quality Management Workshop, at Business Link, Burgess Hill. To support businesses to produce a Quality Management Statement, needed to compete for London 2012 and public sector contracts.

n Wednesday, November 4 '“ Quality Management Workshop, Felbridge Hotel and Spa, East Grinstead. As above.

n Thursday, November 26 '“ Bid Writing and Tendering Workshop, Chichester College, Chichester Campus, Westgate Fields, Chichester. As above.

County council leader Cllr Henry Smith said: "The workshops in Crawley and Burgess Hill have been organised as a follow-up to the successful Gatwick and Crawley Meet the Buyers event.

"These five workshops are essential for any business wanting to compete for a 2012 or a public sector contract, and are free to attend."

Cllr Deborah Urquhart, county cabinet member for environment and economy, said so far around 15 West Sussex businesses had won London 2012-related contracts, and were providing services including electronics, IT, logistics and retail.
