Roads deteriorate over time from constant use and the hot summer this year, followed by a freezing cold snap in December, has likely made the problem worse.
In this story, we highlight 12 of the worst roads for potholes at the moment, according to data on FixMyStreet.com, and use some images from Google Street View to give you a visual reference.
An anonymous resident said: "Potholes on Mount Road are disgraceful, the whole surface needs to be leveled. Very dangerous. The road is littered with them from constant road works that are badly patched up." Photo: Google

An anonymous resident said: "Huge pothole middle of road outside Cavendish House. Been growing for a month or more, lots of debris in road, very sharp-edged and extremelty hazardous." Photo: Google Streetview
11. Rye Road, just past Martineau Lane - Hastings
"Massive new pothole developed in the carriageway going from Westbound up the large hill on the Rye Road, just past Martineau Lane. Right inline with car wheels. Will cause tyres to blow and destroy alloys. Cars are swerving into oncoming traffic and pedestrians to avoid the huge hole", said an anonymous resident. Photo: Google Streetview
12. The Ridge - Hastings
"HUGE pothole, already causing people to have accidents. Just to the east side of the entrance to Seacrest view, on the lane going eastbound, there is a huge pothole. Very recent. I hit is head on (it cannot be seen) and has caused damage to my car. Two more cars had stopped with damage. Cars swerving onto the opposite road/pavement to avoid the pothole at the last minute - danger of hitting pedestrians and other road users", an anonymous resident said. Photo: Google
