Lane closure planned in Midhurst as diseased roadside trees to be felled

Trees suffering from fungus, dieback or other damage in Midhurst are set to be removed in order to ensure public safety.

The Cowdray Estate is due to undertake essential tree felling opposite the Methodist Church on the A272 during the week starting Monday, May 18.

A spokesman confirmed that all necessary consents for the felling of the trees in the Conservation Area had been obtained from the South Downs National Park Authority.

The work is classified as essential under government guidelines and contractors will comply with social distancing requirements.

The specified diseased trees will be felled and all arisings chipped and removed from the site.

A lane closure with traffic control will be in place for five days to allow the work to take place.

A mixture of native and ornamental trees will be planted in the autumn to replace those that are being felled, the spokesman confirmed.

English Oak, Wild Cherry and Red Maple have been selected as they are beneficial to wildlife, suitable for the local environment and are considered appropriate for the location.
