Tailbacks near Washington after collision

There have been rush hour delays on the A24 this morning (Thursday March 19) following a collision causing a car to overturn.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Traffic jams built up southbound on the A24 north of the Washington roundabout from 7.45am on Thursday after a silver Ford Fiesta travelling south collided with the central reservation and overturned. It went over the crash barrier blocking one lane of the northbound dual carriageway.

“The driver, a man, was dazed but unhurt. The vehicle was cleared from the carriageway at 8.20am to allow traffic to begin flowing again.

“Tailbacks stretched back for more than a mile while emergency services dealt with the incident, and the A283 Storrington Road was also subject to long delays.”

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service added: “Ambulance crews in an car and an ambulance attended the scene. However thankfully there were no serious injuries and no-one required hospital treatment.”
