Traffic lights in Lindfield set for £90,000 upgrade

West Sussex County Council said work is scheduled to start on Monday, May 25, and will last for four weeks, subject to unknown factors, such as the weather.

Temporary signals will be in operation during the work but will not react as quickly as permanent ones, so longer queues are predicted on approaches to the junction.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes, if possible.

A West Sussex Highways spokesman said: “The existing lights are beginning to fail and, because the equipment is obsolete, there are limited spares available to rectify future faults.

“The new equipment will use LED technology, improving the signals’ reliability, reducing maintenance and saving energy.

“They will also be more reactive to traffic movements. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the work but this project will lead to long-term improvements.

“We will do all we can to try to minimise disruption.”

The scheme is estimated to cost £90,000.

The council said the Government’s guidelines on Coronavirus are being adhered to in all highways projects.

The situation is under constant review and contractors will comply with social distancing guidelines.
